According Forbes, Bezos had a net worth of $89.7 billion, as of the start of trading on Friday. Bill Gates has a net worth of $90.1 billion, up $550 million from yesterday. Then by 10:15 a.m. by Friday, Amazon stock had climbed nearly 2% since the market opened, adding $900 million to Bezos’ net worth and putting him in the No. 1 spot with a net worth of $90.6 billion versus Gates’ $90.1 billion at that time.

Amazon stock surged in after-hours trading on Thursday after the company reported strong third quarter earnings. Amazon reported $43.7 billion in revenue, well above the $42.1 billion analysts expected.

Asia have overtaken the United States as the region with the most billionaires for the first time. Last year America had 563 billionaires while Asia had 637, a report by financial services firm UBS and auditor price water house coopers found.

The report credited the reversal of fortunes to the arrival of a new entrepreneurial class in China, with Asia creating a new billionaire every three days on average.

But while Asian billionaires now outnumber their US counterparts, the Americans still control more wealth in total. Europe took third spot in the report's billionaire database with 342.

Harvey Weinstein Has Sued The Weinstein Company

The disgraced movie mogul, who was founder and former co-chairman, wants access to his emails and other company records that could help defend himself against sexual assault allegations, and also help defend the company against potential liability.

In the lawsuit filed in Delaware's Court of Chancery, Weinstein said he needed the information to prevent the company, in which he and his brother remain the largest investors, from being harmed by unjustified legal settlements. Representatives for Weinstein and The Weinstein Co did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Nigeria, Turkey To Collaborate In Fight Against Terrorism, Arms Smuggling

President Muhammadu Buhari has said the country will collaborate with Turkey in the fight against terrorism and arms smuggling into Nigeria.

The decision was one of those taken at the conclusion of the ninth Summit when President Buhari met with President Recep Erdogan of Turkey. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu in a statement on Sunday said the two governments agreed to support each other in the fight against terrorism, human trafficking, drugs trafficking and arms trafficking after Buhari’s four-day engagement in Turkey.

The president’s spokesperson in the statement titled, “Key Takeaways From President Muhammadu Buhari’s Four-Day Engagement in Turkey,” said the Buhari’s visit to Turkey featured the discussion about security and anti-terrorism; agricultural cooperation; trade cooperation; education and health;transport and connectivity; energy sector cooperation and increased private sector participation.

He said the President of Turkey mentioned the menace of the Fethullah organization “FETO”.

Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, has cried out about the gridlock caused by tanker and truck along Apapa wharf road.

The former governor of Lagos State said that the situation is giving him sleepless nights as the Christmas period approaches. UPDATE - Davido absent at Tagbo’s burial –Brother

Despite Tagbo Umeike and pop singer, Davido, being very close friends ,the artiste allegedly, could not attend the burial ceremony of the young man on Friday.

Tagbo, who allegedly died of alcohol, was buried in his home town in Anambra State and Saturday Beats reliably gathered that the singer was absent.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the brother of the deceased, Chigbo said that although his brother’s life was cut short unexpectedly, his burial went according toplans. He said,“My brother was buried on Friday and it is so sad that we have lost someone with a big heart.
However, Davido was not present at the burial neither did he send a representative but at this point, we have no comment on that.”

Nigerian Sodipo Williams jailed for 6years over $12m fraud in the U.S

Kevin Kunle Sodipo Williams, a Nigerian living in St. Louis, Missouri has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison over a stolen identity fraud scheme that sought more than $12 million in tax refunds.

A U.S. federal judge on Friday also orderedhim to pay roughly $900,000 in restitution to the IRS.Williams was charged with mail fraud, aggravated identity theft, voter fraud and illegal re-entry to the U.S.

Williams and others used public school employees’ identifications stolen from a payroll company to file more than 2,000 fraudulent federal tax returns. Williams also used fraudulently obtained identification numbers to get refund checks.

Williams was deported in 1995 but returned in 1999. In July, Sodipo had pleaded guilty to the charge in an Alabama court.Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stuart M. Goldberg of the Justice Department’s Tax Division and Acting U.S.Attorney Carrie Costantin for the Eastern District of Missouri, said Sodipo entered the guilty plea in a Federal court in Alabama.

According to documents filed with the court, Kevin Kunlay(Kunle) Williams aka Kunlay Sodipo, 56, and others stole publicschool employees’ IDs from a payroll company and used them to electronically file more than 2,000 fraudulent federal income tax returns seeking more than $12million in refunds.He also stole several return preparer’s Electronic Filing Identification Numbers (EFINs) and used them to secure tax-related bank products and services that facilitated the issuance of tax refunds, to include blank check stock and debit cards. Williams used the blank stockto print checks funded by the fraudulent refunds and directed some of the refunds onto debit cards.Williams now faces a period of supervisedrelease, restitution, forfeiture and deportation.

Davido and Wizkid have been doing well when it comes to repping Nigeria in Africa and World. They have been wonderful singers since they emerge in the Nigeria music industry, even with their style of music, they have been  dishing out catchy and fetching tunes that have been topping the chart.

Despite the release of hit singles, we have been longing to see them on a single that will rock the industry, only God knows when it will happen but in a quick chat with talented singer T’bellz who’s set to release a seven-track EP entitled“Live It or Leave It EP”,the singer revealed that he might have both Wizkid and Davido on his next project shortly after the release of his new EP that’s slated for October 28th, 2017.

The Afro singer has promised his fans to expect his international steps anytime soon, just like Wizkid and Davido are doing presently. He also made it known that he’s planning to work with some rappers outside the country but he didn’t mention the exact rapper in his statement.

Also,T’bellz made it known to us that he can’t stop doing afro tunes because that’s what’s gonna take over the industry, let’s wait on his steps while he takes us to another level in Nigerian music industry, we hope to see Wizkid and Davido on his project soon. South African police officers stage protest against Nigerians

Yesterday, the South African police officers staged their own protest, accusing Nigerians residing in the council of intimidation and false accusation.

This is coming after Nigerians stormed the police station on October 11th to protest, after a 25-year-old Nigerian man identified as Ibrahim O. Badmus was allegedly killed by South African police officers at his home on October 10th.Reports say South African policemen raided his home at Vanderbijlpark triangle on suspicion that he sells hard drugs.

Evans pleads 'not guilty' at continuation of trial

- Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike also known as Evans, the notorious kidnapper, has pleaded not guilty after his arraignment in court today for the continuation of his trial

- Justice O. H. Oshodi, the presiding judge, arrived at the criminal court 18, Lagos High Court, Ikeja, Lagos, where the first trial took commenced; and called the case

-The notorious billionaire kidnapper entered his new plea after a 45 minutes recess which was called by the trial judge

- Two armoured tanks have been parked at the two entrances to the court, with various policemen stationed in the courtroom for the commencement of the high-profile trial notorious billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike also known as Evans, has pleaded not guilty,at the continuation of his trial at the Lagos High Court, Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, October 19. Evans was brought into court along with five other suspects- four men and one lady- and all of them were handcuffed.

NAIJ.com is currently in the court premises, and witnessed the arrival of Justice O. H. Oshodi at criminal court 18, the same place where the first trial commenced. After calling the case, the presiding judge stood it down for 45 minutes in order to allow the prosecution and defense counsels to confer. Afterwards, the judge returned; and Evans and the other 5 co-accused persons all entered 'not-guilty' pleas after an amendment was made to the charges leveled against them.

This comes despite the fact that the billionaire kidnapper had initially pleaded 'guilty' at his first trial appearance.For the high-profile trial, two armored tanks have been placed at the two entrances to the court.Policemen are also strategically positioned at various corners of the courtroom.

The Return Of Monkey Pox, the Ailment That Has No Cure, 39 Years After

The monkeypox virus is causing a stir around Nigeria as reports of its outbreak keeps spreading around the country however not many people know that this is the third time the disease is penetrating the nation.

A monkeypox sufferer the current suspected monkey pox outbreak in Nigeria, which has now spread to seven states, is the third in the nation’s history. There were a total of three recorded human cases previously  in 1971 and 1978 according to the Centres for Disease Control, CDC.

The virus was first isolated from colonies of monkeys kept for research, hence the name “monkey pox.”The first recorded human case of monkey pox was in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of Congo during a period of intensified effort to eliminate smallpox. There were also reports of cases in Liberia and Sierra Leone. The following year, 1971, there was one case in Cote d’Ivoire and two cases in Nigeria. Then in 1976 there were two cases in Cameroon and again in Nigeria, in 1978, one case was recorded. Since then, monkey pox has remained strictly a disease of Central and Western African countries, except in 2003, when 47 cases were reported in the US.

The 2003 US outbreak is the only time monkey pox infections in humans were documented outside of Africa.   Most of those affected had close contact with pet prairie dogs believed to have had contact with animals that were imported. The current outbreak in Nigeria is of West African origin and associated with milder disease, fewer deaths, and limited human-to-human transmission. Studies have shown that the monkey pox virus can cause a fatal illness in humans and, although it is similar to human smallpox which has been eradicated, it is much milder.

A professor of virology and former President, Nigeria Academy of Science, Professor Oyewale Tomori, described as a shame Nigeria’s inability to diagnose monkey pox.Tomori, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard from the US, remarked:“It is indeed a shame for us in this country that, nearly 60 years after our so called independence, we are still unable to confirm a case of most diseases without sending our samples to laboratories overseas.“And which overseas, are we talking about. Senegal! Just imagine. And there was a time when our laboratory system was able to confirm many of these diseases, now, none of these diseases are we able to confirm.“We do not have appropriate and well equipped laboratory facilities to definitely confirm suspected cases. Samples have been sent to Dakar and plans are being made to send additional samples to the smallpox laboratories of the WHO Collaborating Center for Smallpox and other Poxvirus Infections at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta”.

Causes
Monkey pox is a rare disease caused by infection with monkey pox virus, thatbelongs to the same family of viruses that includes variola virus (the cause ofsmallpox), vaccinia virus (used in the smallpox vaccine), and cowpox virus.The natural reservoir remains unknown.However, African rodent species are expected to play a role in transmission.The monkey pox virus can cause an illness with a generalised vesicular skinrash, fever, and painful jaw swelling. In previous outbreaks, it has led to death in about 1-10 per cent of infected cases.There is no specific medicine to treat the disease, but intensive supportive care helps patients to recover fully.

Confirmation of suspected cases
We do not have appropriate and well equipped laboratory facilities to definitely confirm suspected cases. Samples have been sent to Dakar and plans are being made to send additional samples to the smallpox laboratories of the WHO Collaborating Center for Smallpox and other Poxvirus Infections at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.

Rapid spread
I think it is too early to say  that we are having a rapid spread of the disease as we do not have laboratory confirmation of the reported cases from different states. However, this is not to say that the disease cannot be spread easily, especially from an infected person.

Largest outbreak
The largest outbreak ever reported in Africa was the 1996 DR Congo outbreak, with more than 70 cases. Theoutbreak lasted for a period of one year.During the outbreak, there was a significant association of human contacts with squirrel (trapping, preparing raw meat for cooking) and human-to-human transmission through direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or cutaneous or mucosal lesions of infected persons.In Africa, there are reports of human infections associated with handling of infected monkeys, Gambian giant rats and squirrels, with rodents being the major reservoir of the virus. Eating inadequately cooked meat of infected animals is a possible risk factor.

Cause for concern
There is definitely a danger and cause for concern, as between 1- 10 percent of people infected with monkeypox maydie, most deaths occurring in younger age groups. However, we need to confirm the cases before we think of declaring a national emergency. If we have to declare an emergency at all, it is to declare emergency for the poor state of national health. Otherwise, we will be declaring emergencies for every outbreak. And we have many in our country- Lassa, Meningitis and pardon me, and the most severe and devastating disease – corruption.

There is no cure
In as much as the government has taken appropriate steps and measures – alerting citizens, calling for calm, sending samples for laboratory testing, contacting international agencies for assistance- our national response is adequate. Unfortunately, there is no cure for the disease, although it is known that people who have received smallpox vaccine suffer a mild form of the disease. But remember smallpox vaccination was stopped in the 1980s, so should people born after that time contract the disease, they are likely to suffer a severe form.

What to do to prevent infection
First is to prevent transmission from animal to man through contact with any of the animals listed as natural hosts of the virus – monkeys, rodents, rats, squirrels etc. Those handling sick animals, raw or infected tissues, must wear gloves and other appropriate protective clothing. We must thoroughly cook all animal products (blood, meat) before eating.

During a monkey pox outbreak, we must avoid close and direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or cutaneous or mucosal lesions of an infected person. Since there is neither avaccine nor a specific treatment for the disease, you need to raise awareness of the risk factors and educate people about the measures that must be takento reduce exposure to the virus.Also upgrade our surveillance for the disease to rapidly identify new cases and isolate them. We must implement standard infection control in our health facilities, while providing our health workers with gloves and protective equipment when taking care of ill people.We cannot over stress the need for regular hand washing, especially after caring for or visiting sick people. Finally, we must keep our environment clean and free from invasion by rats and rodents.

Family Friend, says investigation on his death not based on Davido’s video footage

There have been several twists concerning the death of Tagbo who is a friend of pop star, Davido. The latest in the saga is the release of a CCTV footage by Davido’s camp that showed a staggering Tagbo obviously intoxicated, leaving the Shisha Room. However, in an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, Damilola Usman, who claims to be a family friend of the deceased, said the police investigation would not be based on the viral video released by Davido’s camp.

He explained that the police have since seen that footage but they alsohave in their custody, a CCTV footage which showed the way Tagbo was dumped in the hospital. Usman claims that he watched the CCTV obtained from the hospital andhe recognised someone in the footage.Usman said, “Few days ago, I was told thatduring Davido’s visit to the police station, he brought the guys who dumped Tagbo’s body at the general hospital to the police station. The same guys that they saw in the CCTV were the ones that were brought to the police station. The CCTV in the hospital showed the guys that dropped him and the way he was dropped at the hospital.“From my observation, the police investigation would not be based on the CCTV from the Shisha Room where they went to drink. 

Davido is only trying to defend himself by releasing the CCTV video footage of the Shisha Room becausethe police already have that footage and they had seen it before Davido’s camp released the video. I believe they are goingto base their investigation on the hospital’s CCTV.“The question that Davido has been asked is why he asked people to drop Tagbo at the hospital and he is denying the claims. They are asking Davido that why his escorts would leave him to go and drop Tagbo’s body in the hospital. He is showing us the Shisha Room CCTV which revealed that the guy was drunk. We are allaware that he was drunk, but how did they treat him after realising that he was drunk?That is the question that he is being asked but he is trying to evade it.

I saw the CCTV footage at the police station and he knows the guys that went to drop him at the hospital. They are his boys; one of them was wearing a red fez cap and an Adidas clothing head to toe. The guys that went to drop him are Davido’s friend. I saw one of the guys at the Shisha Room on that fateful day and later that night, I also saw him at the Elegushi Beach but I don’t know when they went to drop him at the hospital. The police already have all the evidence they need and they are investigating the matter.

“The footage that was released which showed that Tagbo was high at the Shisha Room is not the issue; the question is what happened after.”He told Saturday Beats that the deceased who is the first son of the family lost his father about five years ago and his mother is currently battling stroke.“Tagbo’s father died about five or six years ago. He is the first son but second child of his mother. He has a younger brother, Chigbo but his elder sister who is the first born of the family is based in the UK. His mother has stroke and I am sure she is not happy about what is happening being a mother.

I cannot really say much about thestate of his mother and the only person that can say much about her is Chigbo because she is currently not in Lagos,” he said.

FG To Sell Electricity Distribution Companies To New Investors

The President Muhammadu Buhari administration is seeking to introduce new investors in the energy market to boost power production.

The federal government has commenced negotiations with operators of the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) with a view to ceding some of their shares to accommodate new investors who would bring in more funds to increase their service delivery.
The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Mohammed, disclosed this at the end of the Nigeria Economic Summit , in Abuja, Thursday.

Discos have been recognised as obstacles to the nation’s quest for efficient electricity sector.Her words,“The Power sector has been privatized and every Nigerian knows that the privatization has not worked well. Things we sought to achieve in the power sector have not yet happened. And we have now come to the point where investors in the power sector must come together and decide to cede some of their holdings to enable new investors with expertise come in to enable us grow the power sector at the pace we want. It involves negotiating with existing owners and also government.

“No new investor will be interested to come in with the level of tariff obtainable now.  There will be an impact  on tariff. Starting point will be Discos.“The power sector will be opened up to new investment, it is very clear that no new investor will be coming without having a satisfaction from the tariff that will be obtainable in the industry.“That is a discussion that must be held. It is very clear to us now that the level of tariff we have now is not obtainable.

It will be a subject of negotiation between government, the existing investors and new investors as well as consumers.“We will try to attain to optimal level that will make an impact on the tariff.  The starting point will be the Discos.”

The Minister of health in Tunisia has shocked friends and family members after he reportedly died of heart attack. 

ChakerTunisia's health minister has died of a heart attack after taking part in a charitymarathon to help fight cancer. Slim Chaker, 56, fell ill after running some 500 metres, and died in a military hospital, the health ministry said.

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said he had lost a"brother and colleague", who had died doing a noble humanitarian act. The marathon was held in the coastal town of Nabeul on Sunday to raise funds to build a cancer clinic for children.

Mr Chaker was appointed health minister last month in a major cabinet reshuffle. He was a former banker who had served in the ministries of finance, sports and youth after the overthrow of long-serving ruler Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011. 

Heart attack symptoms

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Nigerian vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, has addressed insinuations that he might attempt to bid for the presidency.

Speaking while responding to questions at the FT Africa conference in London where he is one of the speakers, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said he does not have any plan to contest for the Presidency come 2019 election.Accoriding to Reuters, Osinbajo's diclosure comes amid talks about whether President Muhammadu Buhari who has battled with an undisclosed ailment this year would seek reelection or bow out after one term.

Some of the talks have also been aboutthe possibility of Professor Osinbajo contesting in the 2019 elections. But when asked about that possibility, the Vice President said,“None of that is on the cards.”  Professor Osinbajo also warned about the dangers of over-reliance on oil. Sharing his testimony during a service at the Living Faith Church World Headquarters, the General Overseer of the Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, narrated how God saved him from a “potential plane crash.

” According to him, there was mid-air crisis, but God intervened.“God took control and landed the plane.“There was a mid-air crisis, there was serious turbulence, but there was no apprehension. Jesus took control.

“He landed the plane safely. And we were just celebrating the faithfulness of God” he said.

Rap Queen of the moment, Cardi B emerged one of the biggest winners at the 2017 edition of the BET Hip Hop Awards held last night at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami.
