Ex President, Jonathan denies quitting PDP

Ex President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he has no reason to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or retire from politics for now.
He made the statement on Sunday, through his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, in reaction to a report by an online publication which claimed that the ex-president had resigned from PDP and quit politics.

Mr Eze’s statement described the news as fake, saying that it was a “calculated attempt to rubbish the elder statesman”.
“The PDP gave Jonathan the platform to serve as Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President and eventually President of Nigeria. Jonathan has no reason at this time to resign his membership of the platform.
“Those who derive pleasure in spreading fake information had better occupy themselves with more productive endeavours that are obviously more relevant to nation-building.
“Obviously, this is a fabrication borne out of mischief as the publishers of the fake story claimed that the former President made the statement while being interviewed by the Nigeria News Agency (NNA).
“There is absolutely no way the former President could have spoken to a non-existent news agency, as none in the country goes by that name,” the statement stated.

😄😄Ex President, Goodluck Jonathan says, I laugh when people call me clueless

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says he laughs anytime people try to run down his administration as a clueless one .
The former President said this in his recently published book titled , ‘ My Transition Hours ’ .

He said , “ Sometimes I laugh when certain propagandists attempt to stand logic on its head by maligning my administration as one bereft of ideas and clueless. In assessing my administration , it is best to focus on facts .

“ I cannot assess myself . I leave that to history and I make bold to say that never in the history of Nigeria till date has the nation had such a star - studded cabinet full of achievers and people who got to the top of their chosen fields by merit . ”
Jonathan said the only thing that saddened him was the hounding of his former ministers by the Muhammadu Buhari administration .
He , however , said he was happy that many of his ministers and former appointees had become leading world figures today like Adewunmi Adesina and Ngozi Okonjo -Iweala .
Jonathan added, “ Most painful has been the attacks on my ministers , aides, associates and even members of my family. There is an attempt to erase our legacy from history . The good thing is that the unending barrage of attacks , deliberate misinformation, and programmed media smear campaigns have failed to sway the opinions of those with the clear view of our beliefs, efforts, and achievements .
“ There are millions of Nigerians and others around the world who are still impressed with our modest achievements in consolidating democracy and growing the nation ’ s economy . They will continue to serve as my strength and encouragement. ”

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan says Buhari’s govt worsened corruption, and chased away investors

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari , not only worsened the level of corruption in Nigeria but also chased away investors by de-marketing Nigeria abroad .

Jonathan added that rather than take Nigeria to the next level , the Buhari administration decided to engage in media trials which also worsened the corruption perception of Nigeria thereby leading to Nigeria ’ s slip in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index .
The former President said this in his recently published book titled , ‘ My Transition Hours ’ .
He said , “ The sundry accusations by the new administration will appear to have baited the media. Media trials are entertaining but have little or no effect in fighting corruption and improving the economy .

“ Since I left office , rather than improve on our TI corruption perception record, the situation has worsened with the nation going 12 places backward , becoming number 148 according to the latest CPI ranking for 2014 , from 136 in 2014 when I was President .
“ It was bad enough that Boko Haram insurgency continued killing people and ruining businesses but what is worse is when politicians downgrade the economy by de -marketing the country internationally . ”
The former President said the Buhari administration failed to realise that foreign investors are always very sensitive to the utterances of the government .
He said in the process of trying to dig a hole for him, the Buhari government ended up digging a hole for the nation .

Jonathan added , “ You should never try to slander your political opponent by destroying your country ’ s economy . Capital flight intensified and companies started laying off staff . In all this , I hope a lesson will be learned . If you embark on digging a hole for your enemy, you better make it shallow because you might end up in the hole yourself .
“ How do you attract investors you already repelled through your utterances ? Investors are an ultrasensitive lot . Money runs away from unstable societies . ”

$32bn was lost under Jonathan's administration - UK's DFID

It has been revealed by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development on Monday, that about$32bn was lost Jonathan’s Government.

DFID’s Head of Office in Nigeria, Debbie Palmer, who made this known at an event organized by a non-governmental organization, Youngstars Foundation Initiative in Abuja, said the money represented 16% of the previous government’s resources.

“An independent report estimates that up to $32bn was lost to corruption under the previous government. This is around 15 per cent of state resources during the period and could well be an under-estimate.

So the estimate is that nearly 16 per cent of the previous government’s money was lost to corruption. That is a staggering amount of money. And that is money that is to all of you and to your future. That is why we all should care about corruption.Millions of dollars also remain in other jurisdictions tied up in legal challenges” she said.

Palmer who made it known that the UK is ready to support Nigeria to fight off corruption in the nation added that the country's youths have important roles to play to see to the realization of this.
