Exclusive - Burna Boy's mother receives loud cheer as she gives powerful speech while accepting her son's BET Awards for the Best International Act (watch video)

Burna Boy won the award for Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards that held last night.

 

Though he was at the event with his girlfriend, Stefflon Don, he wasn't available when it was time to receive his award so his mum went on his behalf.

 

"He must be the most restless person I ever met, because he was here right now," Burna's mother said of her son as she accepted his award.

 

She then gave a short acceptamce speech that was so powerful and moved everyone present.

 

Speaking with grace and poise, she said: "Thank you very much BET. Thank you Africa. Because that's the constituency for which we got noticed in the first place. And the message from Burna, I believe, would be that every black person should please remember that you were Africans before you became anything else.

 

At this point, a loud cheer went up in the venue.

 

"Thank you," she concluded, lifting the award plaque and left the stage.

Nigerian-born professional basketball manager, Ujiri Masai is not the only Nigerian export in the “success has many fathers” story of Toronto Raptors, who won a historic National Basketball Association (NBA) championship last week.

The historic victory has seen many Nigerians, Kenyans, and Canadians claim ties with the basketball executive who helped Raptors secure a great place in history books.

On Monday, the players were out with fans to celebrate the victory in Downtown Toronto, in what Canadian newspapers have described as the biggest party in the city’s history.

On the playlist for the victory parade were two Nigerian stars, Davido and Burna Boy, whose music left many fans dancing at the Canadian city.

The victory parade, which is being streamed across major television outlets in the country had Burna Boy’s “Ye”, and Davido’s 2018 bangers “If” and “Fall”, hitting the airwaves as an estimated one million people or more took to the street in celebration.

Raptors, a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, emerged champions last Thursday after beating Golden State Warriors, the defending champions.

The game was won with 114-110 for a 4-2 series victory, which saw the Raptors become the first team outside the US to win the championship at their NBA finals debut in 24 seasons.

Biggest Party in Toronto’s History

Mike Bartlett, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) head of community affairs and events, which planned the event said MLSE expects 1.5 million to two million people to show up at the parade.He also added that this would be the biggest party in Toronto’s history.

The Raptors joined the NBA in 1995 as an expansion team alongside the Western Conference’s Vancouver Grizzlies, as the first NBA franchises based in Canada.

They finished in last place in their division in each of their first three seasons in the league — only to be champions in 24 years on.

Exclusively Burna Boy says Nigerians should actually fight SARS instead of protesting

Nigerian outspoken musical artist, Burna Boy has warned Nigerians not to mention him in their social media outcry against the SARS – the “Dangote” crooner made this known in reaction to the death of Kolade Johnson who was hit by a stray bullet from a SARS officer.

Kolade Johnson was hit while watching an English Premier League match between Liverpool and Tottenham over the weekend. Since the news of the gentleman’s death broke, many Nigerians have resurrected the hashtag #EndSARS which has seen many celebrities join in.

Attack on Mr.2Kay: Burna Boy docked for conspiracy

Nigerian dancehall star, Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy, was, yesterday, docked before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court by Lagos State Police, over his alleged role in the robbery of a fellow musician, Abiye David Jombo, also known as Mr 2Kay, in October.

Mr 2Kay, who was allegedly robbed at gunpoint in his hotel room at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on October 22, during the Buckwyld ‘N’ Breathless concert, where he also performed, lost some items to the attackers.. The Police had invited Burna Boy in connection with the robbery. But he appeared after two months. He was subsequently arrested and detained after he turned himself in. Recall that some suspects, including Joel Kantiock, Burna Boy’s Road Manager, were paraded among those arrested for the robbery. Others were Balogun Ademola, Obinna Igwe and Tunmise Omotore, who were subsequently arraigned in court.

Charged

Burna Boy, who was taken to court yesterday, was arraigned on a count-charge, bordering on ‘accessory after the fact’ and ‘conspiracy’ brought against him, to which he pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector N. Peters, Burna Boy did not disclose what he knew about the robbery. However, Burna Boy’s lawyer, Bright Idahosa, asked the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, a move which was not opposed by the Police prosecutor.

The lawyers that represented Eko Hotel and Suites and Mr 2Kay’s record label, Grafton Entertainment, however, opposed the bail application, while insisting that Burna Boy is a key witness in another case in which the main suspects in the robbery case against Mr 2Kay are standing trial. Specifically, Tayo Reju, holding watching brief for Eko Hotel and Suites, pointed out that should Burna Boy be granted bail, it would jeopardise the other case at a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, after listening to both parties, granted Burna Boy bail of N100,000 with two responsible sureties, while the matter was adjourned till December 29 for trial to commence. There was, however, a mild drama as Burna Boy was shielded by security operatives, who prevented reporters from taking his pictures, while he was whisked away in an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Imohimi Edgal, the suspects were paid N50,000 before the attack on Mr. 2Kay and another N50,000 was paid directly by Burna Boy after the attack.

‘Lost items’

Mr.2Kay was allegedly robbed of his Swiss Audemars Piguet, an automatic gold wristwatch, valued at $25,000; gold jewellery valued at N1.5 million; an iPhone7, valued at N380,000, a Samsung Galaxy S7, valued at N240,000; Samsung Galaxy S5, worth N110,000; Adidas shoes, N75,000; three bottles of perfume, N180,000, and a cash sum of N45,000.

Burnaboy finally arrested over Mr 2Kay robbery incident,to be charged to court

Burnaboy has been arrested over Mr 2Kay robbery incident.

According to a statement by the Police, he has been interrogated,detained and will be charged to court on Monday.

The statement reads the pop musician, Damini Ogulu, a.k.a Burna boy, who was sought for in connection with the robbery attack on another popular musician , Mr. 2kay at Eko Hotel early last month,reported to the police today 15/12/2017 at about 1700 hours. He was subsequently arrested, interrogated and detained and would havehis day in court on Monday 18/12/2017.

Controversial singer, Mr 2Kay, who had an interview with HipTV, reacted to report of BurnaBoy threatening to beat up Pastors.

Mr 2Kay who blamed it all on being high, said;“for me what burnaboy said is a No, how will you say you will beat up pastors that pray for this country day and night.

I don’t know if he is high or drunk for him to said that. But for me it is totally wrong. If pastors lay a curse on you, then you are done”.
