Aisha Alhassan revealed the reason she resigned from Buhari’s cabinet, dumps APC

I write with a lot of respect to inform Mr President of my decision to resign my appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Your Excellency may wish to recall that I joined the APC in 2014 along with other members of the then new PDP, contested the 2015 governorship election as the flag bearer of the APC and to the Glory of God, you graciously nominated to be a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Your Excellency Mr President may wish to be reminded that I went through all the screening processes (security, medical and national assembly) as required by constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after which I was cleared and approved as fit and proper for appointment as minister.

Mr President, you therefore graciously appointed and swore me in as minister in November 2015.Mr President may also wish to recall that I wrote to notify you of my intention to again contest for governor of my state in forthcoming 2019 election under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and you again graciously blessed my intention and wished me well through a letter personally signed by Mr President which I appreciate and will forever cherish. Sir, I purchased the APC nomination forms and went for the party’s screening on Thursday, the 20th of September 2018 along with ten(10) other contestants for the governorship of my state, Taraba. I, with your permission,proceeded to Taraba on the 23rd of September 2018, to prepare for the presidential and governorship primaries then scheduled for the 25th and 29th of September 2018 respectively.

While preparing for the primaries in Jalingo, I received with the shock and dismay that I was disqualified and not cleared to contest for the 2019 governorship by the National Working Committee of the party (APC). No reason was given for my disqualification. Mr President may wish to be also informed that I had always been a very committed and loyal party member and was at no time queried or admonished for any wrongdoing or unconstitutional behaviour.

Up to the time of writing this letter,no reason is given by the party for my disqualification to contest election under the APC.It is for the above reasons sir, that I feel grave injustice was done to me by the party (APC), therefore my decision to leave the party and also resign my appointment as minister. If I am not qualified to contest election in the APC, I feel I am also not qualified to remain a minister in an APC government.

May I at this point thank, appreciate and express my profound gratitude to Mr President for the honour, rare privilege and lifetime opportunity you gave me to serve under your great and credible leadership. I learnt a lot (especially patience) under your leadership. Working with you in the last almost three years was great and has immensely improved my leadership quality, I will remain forever grateful for that, sir.

May I also use this opportunityto thank his Excellency, the Vice President, from whom I have also learnt a lot and my colleagues, other members of the Federal Executive Council, the SGF and cabinet office stafffor their fellowship and supportto me both as minister and personally. May God Almighty reward them all, Amen.

While wishing Mr President continued good health and thanking you again for the opportunity given to me, please accept sir, the assurances of my best wishes always and absolute loyalty to you as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.Thank you Sir.

EPL: Lukaku & other Man Utd stars support Jose Mourinho against Paul Pogba

Jose Mourinho is gaining full support of his players especially the stars in the Manchester United team against his row with Paul Pogba.

One of Pogba greatest pals in the team Romelu Lukaku is also going cold on the French midfielder. There are concerns that Pogba's relationship with Mourinho might have a negative impact on the other players and the team especially the players that are close to Pogba in the team, according to Daily Mail.

Belgian forward Lukaku has distanced himself from the frosty relationship between Pogba and Mourinho despite playing a huge part in his move to Old Trafford from Everton last season.

Lukaku does not want to be seen to be backing Pogba against the Portuguese tactician. The two players remain on good terms but club insiders have noticed they are not as close as before.

Ashley Young, Nemanja Matic and Michael Carrick are not in contact with Pogba as it were before the rancour with Mourinho.

SERIE A - Ex-Italy coach Lippi gives verdict on Ancelotti and Christiano Ronaldo

Former Italy national team coach Marcello Lippi has given a verdict on Carlo Ancelotti and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Serie A clash on Saturday at Allianz Stadium.
Former Real Madrid and PSG boss have led last season runner-up to five wins and just one defeat this season so far while Bainconerri summer signing of Portugal international has fired Old
Ladys to the top of the summit in Serie A after six matches with 100 percent record.

Lippi, who coached both clubs, told Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of Saturday’s showdown. "Napoli are the same as last season, but with a new Coach who’s done a fantastic job so far,”
"Juve have only changed a bit, apart from CR7… Carlo did well to keep Sarri’s work intact, but he’s added experience, strong psychology and an ability to mix things up tactically without it affecting performances.

"Sarri didn’t rotate much because he was looking for a crazy level of chemistry on the field, but Carlo is different. He’ll get to the end of the season with a fresher squad and one who are all in sync because everyone will have played at the same level as the starters.
"There are those who claim Ronaldo has taken space away from Dybala, but it’s not true. Allegri’s also said it.
"Between the lines and in the final third is where Paulo plays best. Cristiano, on the other hand, just scores, and that can only help his teammates.

"He’s a champion whom Zidane managed to perfection, and Allegri must learn from that, but he’ll succeed and everyone will benefit from him. He can play anywhere and adapt to those around him.
"Allegri is good at constantly changing system: one minute he’ll play with two forwards, then three, then three defenders, then four. Therein lies Juventus’ strength, and Ancelotti is trying to do the same thing at Napoli.

"They’ll succeed under Ancelotti and results will also be seen in Europe, where the Azzurri still haven’t made it to the top.
"They need experience, and Carlo has it in abundance.”
However, the China boss was less vocal about who would win on Saturday. “Juventus haven’t surprised me, Napoli have a bit, but a prediction really is impossible for me to make,” he concluded.

APC drops Buhari’s minister for not having NYSC certificate

The gubernatorial ambition of Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, might have been scuttled.

This became evident Thursday night after his name was dropped from the full list of aspirants cleared to contest in 26 states by the party.
Yekini Nabena, the party’s spokesman in a statement sent to DAILY POST, said Shittu was not cleared because he does not possess the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
The list has been endorsed by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Earlier in his reaction to the scandal, Oyo-born Shittu declared that his own issue was different from that of former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who resigned of her NYSC certificate scandal.
According to him, whereas that of Adeosun was the presentation of a fake exemption certificate, he never obtained any certificate.
He said: “I left (University) in 1978 and left law school in 1979 and the constitution says anyone who qualifies to contest an election or who has gone through an election and wins, he is obligated to move through the House of Assembly which I did for four years, so it is a form of higher service as far as I’m concerned, and even now, I am still in service.”

On whether he agrees that he has violated the provisions of the NYSC Act, the Minister said, “I don’t see… and I’m not worried. Do you see any worry on my face? I don’t think so, except someone has a superior argument and prove it.”
Stressing that his case was not like that of Adeosun, Shittu said: “There is a world of difference. Unfortunately, Kemi had a fake certificate, I didn’t present any. I didn’t have one, I simply followed the constitutional requirement that if you are qualified to contest an election, it is compulsory for you to serve the nation in the capacity that you won an election.”

Federal Government to Pay Workers Salaries Inspite of Strike – AGF

Following the commencement of the indefinite strike action embarked on by the Organised labour, The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris has restated his commitment to pay salaries of all workers on the Federal Government payroll in spite of the on-going Labour strike.

Mr. Ahmed Idris gave this commitment today while speaking to Newsmen at the Treasury House in Abuja. “ We have a standing order from Mr. President to pay workers salaries from the 25th of every month, which we have striven hard to fulfill to Nigerian workers and this month will not be an exception” maintained the AGF.
He however said that the payment of salaries cannot be achieved in an atmosphere where the critical stakeholders are not allowed access to their offices. “I must explain that salary payment involves a number of processes that do not begin and end with the OAGF. There are other critical stakeholders like the Cash Management Department in Ministry of Finance and others who are supposed to do their beat before we can finalise”, Mr Idris said.

“On coming to the office this morning we met the gates of the office locked and wondered how we can keep this promise if we are being locked out of the office. After speaking with the local arm of the Labour in the office on the need to pay salaries, they conceded to allow me and some of my staff in but the Gates are still locked. I therefore appeal to labour to open our gates so that we can have unhindered access to meet their needs”.
The AGF further appealed to the National Leadership of Labour to reconsider their stand on the on-going strike saying that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari more than ever has demonstrated high commitment towards meeting the welfare of the Nigerian Workers.

He therefore enumerated some of the very salient actions the present Government has so far undertaken to improve the welfare of the workers to include:

I. The payment of over N50 billion for Promotion arrears from 2012 – 2016;
ii. the approval of another N60 Biilion for the payment of Salary Arrears with effect from 2011 -2016;
iii. the President’s recent approval of N22.68 Billion for the payment of pension Arrears to the retirees of the defunct Nigeria Airways workers which has been outstanding for over 14 years;
iv. the President’s approval of N20 billion to meet ASSU’s demand for infrastructure development in both Federal and State Universities;
v. the Federal Government policy of Non-retrenchment of workers ;
vi. Provision of jobs for the teaming Nigerian unemployed youths, especially: the recruitment of over 10,000 Policemen; recruitment by the Army, Navy and Air force; recruitment by the para-military such as the Fire Service, Immigration, Nigeria Prison Service , Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps;
vii. Appointment into Various Ministries, Departments and Agencies;
viii. the payment of salaries to Federal Government Workers as at when due, as well as promotion of workers as at when due.
Mr Idris therefore urged Labour to trust Mr. President and return to the path of discussion, and negotiation, as the President has demonstrated enough commitment by setting up the tripartite committee. The committee which is headed by Ms Amal Pepple is saddled with the responsibility of consulting widely with stakeholders with a view to coming up with a realistic and acceptable minimum wage.

He further cautioned that “ we are all working for the same system and we should do nothing that could threaten the economy and lead to the collapse of the same system”
It will be recalled that the AGF had at the end of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee meeting (FAAC), on Wednesday 26th September, promised that salaries of Federal Government Workers will be paid.

INEC declares APC Gboyega Oyetola winner of Osun State governor election

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress , Gboyega Oyetola, as the Governor -elect of Osun State .

The rerun of the Osun State governorship election was held in seven polling units across four council areas on Thursday with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress , Gboyega Oyetola, beating the Peoples Democratic Party candidate , Ademola Adeleke .
The returning officer , Prof. Joseph Fuwape, declared that the APC candidate , Oyetola, won the governorship election by scoring a total number of 255 ,505 votes while Adeleke of the PDP polled 255 , 023 votes.

This was, however , met with protests by Adeleke, the PDP , and the Coalition of United Political Parties , among others.
Adeleke had won the main election on Saturday with 353 votes after polling 254 , 698 against Oyetola’s 254 ,345 . On Thursday , both candidates relied on 2 ,637 votes in the seven units where the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared rerun to win the final contest.

The rerun was held in one polling unit in Oyere in Ife - North , one polling unit in Olode in Ife - South, another polling unit in Osi , Ife - South, three polling units in Orolu , Kajola Local Government Area of the state and one polling unit in Osogbo .
In Oyere , APC had 126 votes while PDP had two votes. In Olode, APC scored 283 votes with the PDP scoring 15 votes . In Osi , APC had 172 votes while the PDP had 21 votes . In Ifon , Orolu , APC had 111 votes against PDP ’s three votes . In Gbogbo, Orolu, APC had 41 while PDP scored 64 votes . Also in Idiya , Orolu , the APC scored 128 votes against the PDP ’s 55 votes.

In Osogbo , the APC scored 299 votes while the PDP scored 165 votes . In all, APC scored 1 , 160 to beat the PDP which scored 325 in the rerun . When added to the result of the main election on Saturday , APC had a total of 255 , 505 votes against PDP ’s 255 ,023 .
In the run - up to the rerun of the election , the PDP alleged that INEC shortchanged its candidate in some of the council areas by announcing figures that were lower than what Adeleke actually scored .
It claimed that the actual margin of the win against Oyetola in the first election was 4 ,740 and not 353 . The party said that INEC added 2 , 000 votes to what the APC polled in Osogbo and 1 ,387 to what it scored in Olorunda . The party also alleged that 1 , 000 votes were deducted from what Adeleke scored in the Ayedaade council area .

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party , Iyiola Omisore , who came a distant third in the Saturday ’s election , however , became an important element in the Thursday’s rerun because some of the polling units fell under the area of his strength. He was visited by a high powered Federal Government delegation which included the APC chairman, Adams Oshiomhole ; Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun ; his Oyo State counterpart, Abiola Ajimobi; Ekiti State Governor - elect , Kayode Fayemi; and Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed .
Although he also met some leaders of the PDP , which included the party’s presidential aspirants, Bukola Saraki, and Atiku Abubakar, Omisore caved in under the FG pressure as he announced that he would support the APC in the rerun.

In areas where the rerun was held in Ife - South and Ife - North , PDP supporters alleged that they were barred by thugs from reaching the polling units to cast their votes for Adeleke. They also alleged that police watched as they were beaten by the thugs , adding that the result of the election did not reflect the wish of the electorate.
In Olode, the PDP agent was absent at the polling unit. One of our correspondents who were at the polling unit witnessed the beating of two people who claimed that they had come to vote . Although there was a heavy presence of armed security men at the unit , the hoodlums acted without hurdle . It was also observed that voters were hugely induced to vote at the polling unit.
It was gathered that voters were registered by an agent at a mud house behind the polling area and given what was termed agreement fee before voting and another amount after showing evidence of voting. The evidence was usually the ink on the thumbnail. It was also observed that the majority of the people at the polling unit, except journalists, observers and security men, had a common symbol of identification.

The Director of Voter Education and Publicity , INEC , Akin Ojewande , who was at the unit, said the election process was peaceful . He said that it was the choice of the PDP not to be represented at the unit .
He said, “The election is peaceful according to plan. Everybody has the right to be here or not , How would I know (why the PDP agent is not here). A party is allowed to have an agent at each polling unit. Nobody was sent away from coming here . People have been following the rule . I don’ t know of other polling units . ”
In Osogbo , gunshots fired by unknown people caused a commotion as the voting process was disrupted . Two persons were arrested by the police for attempting to buy votes from the electorate in the queue . A man who was alleged to be in possession of cloned Permanent Voter Cards was also whisked away by security men. An undisclosed amount of money was also found on him .

PDP rejects results , says it ’ s black day for Nigeria

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party met in Abuja on Thursday over the conduct of the rerun governorship election in Osun State .
While rejecting it, the party also said that the Thursday election was one of the worst days in the history of Nigeria .
It described the election as a black day for the nation .
The National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus , spoke at an emergency meeting after the meeting of members of the PDP National Working Committee .
He lamented that Osun State was put under siege and the citizens ’ right trampled upon by security agents , whom he said were backed by both the All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission officials .

He expressed concern that if what took place in Osun State was what would take place in 2019 , then the future of Nigeria ’s democracy “is bleak and the nation sliding into crisis . ”
He said, “What we have witnessed in Osun shows clearly that the All Progressives Congress is not ready for an election and we are afraid that President Muhammadu Buhari will not hand over if he loses the election next year .
“Today, we are all aware of the rerun election in Osun State as we address the press conference . We, the members of the National Working Committee , have reviewed what has happened from the distribution of materials to the actual voting in some of the units and wards.
“We found that Osun is under siege . Therefore , today is a black day for Nigeria .
“We would think that it is a state or some units, but if you look at what has transpired so far from Ekiti to Osun State , Nigerians are groaning in pains especially the Osun people .
“The right of the citizens to be able to come out and vote had been trampled upon and the entire state and the wards and units have been seized by the security agencies who were acting on behalf of the APC to make sure the election is rigged by all means .
“We are sad that if this is what is going to take place in 2019 , then the future of Nigeria ’s democracy is bleak and we are sliding into crisis . ”
Secondus challenged INEC to rise above what happened in Osun and declare the PDP candidate as the winner of the election .
He also called on the commission to immediately cancel the elections in all the units where security agencies seized the Permanent Voter Cards of PDP members and also where their members were prevented from voting.

In his reaction , the Deputy National Chairman (South- West ), Dr Eddy Olafeso, noted that security agents colluded with the APC people by allowing those wearing uniform bearing the APC governorship name to vote . He alleged that in Orolu and Garage Olode and some of the units, the PVCs of PDP members were seized and INEC members of staff were induced with cash , which he said they could not refuse.

Exclusive News: APC, PDP trade blames as parties woo Omisore

OSOGBO—THE two major contenders in tomorrow’s Osun State government rerun election, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, were, yesterday, locked in a verbal war over perceptions of impropriety ahead of the crucial polls in seven selected polling points.

The verbal warfare came as proxies of the two parties continued solicitations to Senator Iyiola Omisore, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, candidate who came third in the election for his support.

Atiku, Fayemi visit Omisore Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, came on behalf of the PDP, while Ekiti State governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who supposedly came on behalf of APC, however, said he came to visit Omisore who he said is his in-law.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was also being drawn into the fray yesterday as PDP gave details of how it was allegedly short-changed of 4,387 votes in two local government areas by INEC, supposedly working in cahoots with the ruling APC.

The party alleged that INEC was set to increase the number of voters due for the rerun from the 3498 earlier announced to 4,387 to allegedly widen the APC’s capacity to manouvere.

The claims were dismissed by the APC’s media campaign coordinator, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who urged voters affected to ignore the PDP which he claimed was jittery over its imminent loss.

INEC also rebuffed the claims as it gave statistics to back its claim that the number of votersin the voting area is 3,498.Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Rochas Okorocha, on his part said the outcome of the election was the reason the party must never go to sleep.The sense of despair of the PDP was also conveyed by its failure to get the exact number of the Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, collected among the 4,387 voters.INEC in a rebuff to claims to social media figures that only 423 PVCs were collected by voters in the affected area, said it would not release the figures for security reasons.

An APC chieftain dismissed the figures as false, adding that INEC had the authentic figures.“Who is in possession of better statistics? INEC is in possession of the real statistics, whatever figure people are claiming is false,” the chieftain said.Contacted on the issue, Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Segun Agbaje, said the electoral umpire had the authentic figures of voters and number ofPVCs collected.He, however, said “that for security reasons, the commission will not disclose the total number of PVCs collected in the seven polling units where the re-run election will take place.”INEC boss should resign — PDPThe PDP at a press conference in Abuja, addressed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondinyan, yesterday, called for the resignation of the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and the National Commissioner in charge of operations, Mrs.

Amina Zakari, upon the claim that they collaborated to stalemate a concluded election.Ologbondiyan said: “With INEC’s fraudulent conduct in the Osun governorship election, and approval that a concluded election be declaredinconclusive, the PDP and, indeed, all well-meaning Nigerians no longer have confidence in Prof. Yakubu.“It is completely inexcusable that Prof. Yakubu presides overan atrocious and compromisedelectoral umpire that manipulates electoral processes, doctors figures, allocates fictitious votes and subverts the will of the people in an election.“

The PDP has additional documentary evidence of how this compromised INEC, through its Operations and ICT Department, doctored results from polling centers, directly short-changed the PDP with no fewer than 4,387 votes by slashing votes cast for the PDPat the polling centers while allocating fictitious figures to the APC.“From the facts available to us, INEC robbed our party of over 4,387 votes. Our actual winning margin stands at 4,740 votes against the 353 votes declared by INEC.”
