Usain Bolt Makes Football For The First Time

The world's fastest man has graced the football pitch in a professional capacity for the first time as Usain Bolt made his debut for A-League side Central Coast Mariners.
On trial with the Australian club, Bolt came on in the 72nd minute of a friendly match against a Central Coast select side with the Mariners already leading 6-0.

A double from Jack Clisby plus goals from Peter Kekeris, Michael McGlinchey, Mario Shabow and Josh MacDonald allowed Bolt to come on under little pressure.
Though the opposition did score from a free-kick not long after he came on, Bolt was in the thick of the action as he was deployed on the left wing.

While there were a few heavy touches from the Jamaican, he was getting himself into some dangerous positions - twice denied headers from close range and was only inches away from a tap-in after 90 minutes.
It wasn't all smooth sailing for Bolt however, who was forced to take off a golden necklace a few minutes after coming on and was sweating profusely as the full-time whistle went.

There's clearly still plenty of work to do for the 32-year-old if he is to earn an A-League contract, but time is on his side, with the Mariners vowing to give him as long as 12 months to get him up to speed.

The superstar athlete has been given the chance to prove his worth by A-League club Central Coast Mariners, who have agreed to let him train with the team indefinitely in his pursuit of a playing contract.

The eight-time Olympic gold medallist and 11-time world champion touched down in Sydney early onSaturday for what the Mariners are calling an “indefinite training period.”Draped in a club scarf following the 14-hour flight from Los Angeles, Bolt briefly greeted a small bunch of Marinersfans at the Sydney international airport on Saturday.He told the waiting packthat the trial was “for real” and he was excitedto hit the training paddock on Tuesday.

He said; “I always put my best foot forward and I’m going to show the world what I’m made of,”“This is real,”“I’ve said since my lastseason of track and field that I want to play football and I know what I can do.“I’m grateful to the Mariners for giving me the opportunity and amhappy to call Australia home for now.”

The club hopes to turn him into A-League material in just three months, with a view to offering the Jamaican a full-time contract in time for the start of the 2018-19 season in late-October.

Jamaican athlete, Usain Bolt has just tweeted that he has agreed to sign for a football club.

31 year old Bolt, who retired from athletics last summer after a glittering career in which he won eight Olympic gold medals, has always spoken of his desire to play football once his sprinting career was over, and on Sunday he tweeted to say “I’ve signed for a football team! Find out which one this Tuesday at 8am GMT.”

Bolt is known to be a Manchester United fan, and was due to have a trial with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund next month.

He also trained with South African side Mamelodi Sundowns last month but at the moment, the football club he signed with is not known until he reveals it tomorrow.

Usain Bolt trains with South African footballclub, Mamelodi Sundowns

Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt,teamed up with South African side Mamelodi Sundown sat their training facility today as the 31-year-old eight-time Olympic gold medalist is visiting the country as part of an Athletics South Africa development scheme. 

The 2016 African champions announced Bolt's arrival on their Twitter account and also posted a video of the Jamaican in training with the squad. 

Bolt, who retired from athletics after August's world championships in London, is famously a Manchester United fan and has often spoken of his desire to play football. "Good thing is he's a free agent! And he can play in a few positions," Sundowns manager Pitso Mosiname, cheekily said. Bolt admits the transition from athletics to football is tough, but thanked the club for the opportunity to train with the squad."It was a good game, a fun day and I really enjoyed it.

I told the coach when I get back to Jamaica I need more training because I'm unfit. I told my friends we need to plan a trip to South Africa it's a beautiful country, I love the vibe here it's similar to Jamaica in that sense!"he said.

It had been planned for the Jamaican sprinter, to play in the fixture, which they hope to use as a fundraiser for the Manchester United Foundation.

However, Bolt suffered a hamstring injury as he ran the final leg of the 4x100m relay at the World Athletics Championships in London.

The world record holder in both the 100m and 200m - has had further scans on the injury, which showed the damage to be worse than anticipated. Bolt, who also won 11 world titles, has now retired from sprinting.

Former United players Edwin van der Sar, Phil Neville, Ronny Johnsen, Louis Saha, Paul Scholes, Denis Irwin, Dwight Yorke, Mikael Silvestre, Jesper Blomqvist, Quinton Fortune and Dion Dublin are all expected to take part in the charity game.

The Jamaican, returning to the scene of his 2012 Olympic successes, could only finish third in the World Championship 100m final. Christian Coleman of the US finishedsecond, with his countryman Justin Gatlin winning the race.The crowd had booed Gatlin, who served two doping bans earlier in hiscareer, at every opportunity during qualifying for the final.

This continued ahead of the race and after it, when his victory was confirmed.After Gatlin celebrated his victory by putting a finger to his lips as if to silence the crowd, Bolt was seen congratulating him.Speaking to the BBC afterwards, the American explained that as well as offering his congratulations, Bolt hadalso told him that he didn’t deserve to be booed by the spectators.“The first thing he said to me was ‘congratulations, you worked hard for this,'” Gatlin explained.

“And he said ‘you don’t deserve these boos’ and I thanked him for that. I thanked him for inspiring me throughout my career. He’s an amazing man.”“The first thing he said to me was congratulations.”

The greatest sprinter in history, Usian Bolt was defeated in the 100mfinal on Saturday at the 2017 London IAAF World Championships.

It marked the first final Bolt lost of any kind in over four years, spoiling what could have been a perfect ending to a storybook career.

Bolt’s world records may remain standing, but he would not accomplish his goal of remaining undefeated in the 100m through the end of his career. Justin Gatlin defeated Bolt in the final, running 9.92 for the gold to Bolt’s 9.95.

Bolt will return later in the championships to anchor Jamaica’s4x100m team in the hopes of one final gold medal.
