FEATURED: Court approves suit seeking Fani-Kayode, Abaribe, others’ trial for Kanu’s escape

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on
Friday, cleared for commencement a
suit seeking an order of mandamus to compel the police and the Department of State Security Service to prosecute certain individuals for allegedly aiding
the escape of the leader of the
Indigenous People of Biafra , Nnamdi Kanu , from Nigeria .

Justice John Tsoho, in a ruling on an
ex parte application, granted leave to the plaintiff, Mr. Isiah Ayugu , to
commence the suit. He ordered the suit to be served on the
defendants – the DSS, its Director -
General, the police and the Inspector - General of Police .
He fixed November 22 for the hearing of the suit. Those the suit is seeking their arrest and prosecution included a former Minister of Aviation , Mr. Femi Fani - Kayode.

They also include those who stood
sureties for the bail granted Kanu by
the Federal High Court in Abuja in
April last year – Senator Eyinnaya
Abaribe, Tochukwu Uchendu, and
Emmanuel Shallom Ben .

UPDATE - IPOB members clash with soldiers,1 killed

- IPOB members clashed with security operatives in Anambra

- This was as a result of Nnamdi Kanu's scheduled visit to for his anti-election campaign

- The police however denied that anyone was killedOne person has reportedly died after members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) clashed with policemen and soldiers over the anti-election campaign in Anambra

According to The Punch, the incident happened on Wednesday, August 16 in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

Nnamdi Kanu who is the leader of IPOB was scheduled to visit the area in furtherance of his anti-election campaign. Policeman and soldiers reportedly converged on Ekwulobia to take charge of the security situation.

It was reported that the situation degenerated into a clash with one member of IPOb killed.A source said:“The security operatives came in 14 trucks. But despite the heavy presence of security in the area, the IPOB members were still parading the area, singing and chanting Biafran songs.“The Biafran flags, caps, shirts and other items being sold by some youths were seized and burnt by the security operatives.

“The situation angered the IPOB members and they tried to attack the security operatives who tear-gassed everybody and in the process, one of their (IPOB) members was killed.

”The police however denied that anyone was killed in the confrontation.Nkeiruka Nwode who is the spokesperson of the Anambra state police command said it received a complaint that the secessionists were breaching the peace of the are.She said:“There was nothing like that (death).

The presence of the security men was to secure the people of the area from being attacked by hoodlums.Her statement read in part:“A complaintwas received by the police that there was a gathering and blockage of road by some people at Central School, Ekwulobia in Aguata LGA.

“The Police with other security agencieson joint patrol went to the scene, dispersed and cleared the road peacefully without any clash.“However, normalcy has been restored and people are going about their business without any threat or molestation.”Kanu has not showed up as at the time of the confrontation.

Meanwhile, the youth wing of Igbo socio-political organization,Ohanaeze Ndigbo gave reasons why Kanuand the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) are agitating.Reports have it that the group said youths in south east are not well being catered for by the political parties.

Nnamdi Kanu Says, Court Can’t Stop Me From Speaking

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Monday, granted an interview to some journalists in Enugu.

Kanu was in Enugu to receive awards froma number of pan-Igbo groups, including the Igbo Women Assembly, the Eastern Consultative Assembly and the Igbo Students Union.Justice Binta Nyako had barred Kanu fromgranting interviews, and being in gatherings of more than 10 persons, whenshe granted the IPOB leader bail.

Asked if he was not worried that he could be re-arrested for flouting the bail conditions by granting the interview, Kanusaid the court cannot stop him from speaking.He said he was only responding to questions asked him by journalists.According to him, refusing to respond to the questions would be seen as a sign of arrogance on his part.He said, “I am replying you. That is what I am doing. I am not giving an interview, I am responding to the question you asked me.“The judge is a very learned fellow. She cannot stop me from speaking.”Kanu added that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Department of State Services were the ones that are guilty of flouting court orders.“Buhari and the DSS have been in multiplebreaches of court order after court order. I wish you can go to the DSS and ask Daura, what is his name? Lawal, whatever his name is, the DSS Director General, whyDSS does not obey court orders.“They are the ones flouting the court orders. It’s not me.

“What I am doing is entirely legal. You ask me a question and I respond to you because if I keep quiet you see me as a very arrogant fellow.”
