Cate Blanchett Gushes Over Natalie Portman Becoming The First Female Thor In ‘Love And Thunder’

As fans of the superhero movies already know, Natalie Portman is set to star in Thor: Love and Thunder as the female version of Thor. This storyline is actually based on The Mighty Thor comic in which the character of Jane Foster, which Portman is portraying, becomes able to wield the God of Thunder’s hammer!

But before that, Natalie’s last actual appearance in the MCU was in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World.

That being said, she was not there when Cate Blanchett played the Goddess of Death in Thor: Ragnarok.

Regardless of the fact that their characters never crossed paths in the Marvel Universe, Blanchett was still excited to learn the news about the other becoming the first female Thor.

While promoting her brand new movie, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, Blanchett chatted with ET and told the news outlet: ‘I am so, so excited. I am looking forward to seeing it [Thor: Love and Thunder] so much, because I absolutely loved seeing them all with my kids. But I really, really loved Captain Marvel. No offense, Taika, but it was my favorite.’

It’s pretty funny that Marvel’s first female villain is showing so much support to its first female title hero.

Speaking of having more female representation in the superhero movies, Blanchett credited this change to Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso.

‘She has been an incredible advocate for feminizing that universe. It is right and true that those franchises should actually be cutting-edge, because that is traditionally what [comics] have done. To know that Natalie’s going to have such a pivotal role is very exciting,’ the actress dished.
