UPDATE! VP Yemi Osinbajo fires DSS boss, summons IG Idris over siege on National Assembly

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday, August 7, sacked the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura.A statement by Laolu Akande, his spokesperson, said:“The acting president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), has directed the termination of the appointment of the director general, State Security Service, Lawal Musa Daura, with immediate effect.

“Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.”

Osinbajo also summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Director-General of the Department of State Security, Mallam Lawan Daura at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the two security chiefs, who arrived Aso Rock at different times, were to update the acting president on security developments including the blockade of the National Assembly by security officials.

The Inspector-General of Police was thefirst to arrive at about 12.35pm before the arrival of the DSS director general at about 1.15pm.The police and operatives of the DSS early on Tuesday, blocked the main gateof the National Assembly, preventing lawmakers and staff from gaining access into the complex.

The security operatives, however, later allowed the lawmakers access into the complex while journalists and other staff were barred.NAIJ.comearlier reported that operatives of theDepartment of State Services (DSS), took over the National Assembly complex.It was learnt that lawmakers as well as staff of the National Assembly were initially prevented from entering the premises by operatives of the DSS.
