The sole suspect of the Jacksonville shooting , David Katz of Baltimore, Maryland allegedly opened fire at a Madden Championship video game tournament held at the GLHF Game Bar on Aug. 26 before taking his own life. Find out what we know about him so far.
1. Katz allegedly only used a handgun. While Katz allegedly committed his rampage, victims were sent fleeing for shelter. Authorities urged them to stay calm as a SWAT team did a sweep of the area to look for potential accomplices.
2. Katz was a disgruntled gamer. The suspect allegedly started shooting at others in the gaming tournament sometime after he lost a match.
3. David acted alone. After injuring 9 people and killing two, David allegedly took his own life. One of the participants in the tournament, Drini Gjoka, revealed that a bullet had struck his thumb and called the massacre the “worst day of my life.”
4. His rampage could be heard from a live stream of the event. In the
chilling video footage , you can hear shots ring out before the feed cuts out. However, the audio afterward managed to record more of the horrific gunfire and the screams of Katz’s victims. At one point in the video, one of the victims cries out, one person cries out, “Oh f**k, what’d he shoot me with?”
5. Over the course of the two-day event, 150 people were supposed to be involved in the tournament that was going to end with the winner heading to Vegas to play in the final round. Thankfully, all of the GLHF Game Bar’s staff members were able to escape from the scene unhurt, according to CBS. As the investigation is ongoing, we’ll keep you posted as we learn more about Katz.
