Jennifer Aniston Says Her Family Told Her She Would ‘Never Make A Dime’ From Acting

It’s no secret that Jennifer Aniston is one of the most successful actors on the planet after she played the role of Rachel Green on Friends for ten seasons. But, the 50-year-old beauty recently revealed that when she first told her family that she wanted to pursue a career in acting, they told her she would “never make a dime.”

Aniston is on the cover of People magazine’s “People of the Year” issue, and in the interview she said that her family didn’t offer her any support when she told them she wanted to be an actress.

“And then Friends came,” said Aniston. “If there were any naysayers in my family, ‘This will never… you’ll never make a dime’ [laughs] Just watch me. Don’t threaten me that way. God knows now I’m going to make a couple of dimes.”

Aniston is the daughter of longtime Days Of Our Lives star John Aniston and his first wife, the late model Nancy Dow. She said that the hardest thing for her when she was younger was getting honest with herself in terms of her relationship with her family, and that meant speaking her truth to them without fear. Aniston says her work has reflected that.

In an interview last year with Elle magazine, Aniston explained that her mom was from a world where she would always advise, “Honey, take better care of yourself” or “Honey, put your face on.” She says she remembers a lot of odd soundbites from her childhood, but her mom only told her those things because she really loved her.

“It wasn’t her trying to be a b**ch or knowing she would be making some deep wounds that I would then spend a lot of money to undo. She did it because that was what she grew up with,” said Aniston.

Unfortunately, her mom was missing what was actually important. And, Aniston thinks she was just holding on and doing the best she could as a struggling single mom in the 1980s.

Aniston also spoke in the People interview about the “never ending” question of a Friends reunion. The A-lister said “we’re trying,” and asked what else could make a group of six actors feel more proud.

“It’s bringing joy to people on a daily basis,” said Aniston.

The Morning Show star says this past year has taught her how much she is capable of, and the words “I dare you” or “No” always make her go, “Oh, okay. Well, let’s just see.”

Jennifer Aniston is “thrilled” by the reaction from fans and critics to her latest dramatic role in The Morning Show. She is also the co-executive producer along with her co-star Reese Witherspoon, and Aniston says it has been “unbelievably rewarding.”
