Mo’Nique Is Suing Netflix — Comedienne Drags Kevin Spacey In It For Saying The ‘N’ Word
After taking a stance against the streaming giant, Mo’Nique is going forward with a lawsuit against Netflix. In the lawsuit, she makes multiple cases of race and gender-based discrimination that went on while she was not present.
The comedienne was offered $500,000 for a comedy special. It may seem like a lot of money for the average person and maybe even comedian but it’s just a small portion compared to Amy Schumer’s $13 million and Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle’s $20 million.
She is suing the company for racial and gender-based discrimination after previously calling for a boycott.
In the documents obtained by TMZ, the actress allegedly brought up the time the Chief Communications Officer used the ‘n’ word in a meeting where dozens of other people were present.
She also points out that Kevin Spacey reportedly said he didn’t want any ‘n’ words on his set and faced no repercussions for it.
The Precious actress mentions the pay gap that went on where a female character was paid less than her male counterpart on Netflix’s The Crown.
In addition to an unspecified amount, she wants the company to change its discriminatory policies.
This comes after her 2018 video where she explained how the lowball offer was based on her race and gender.
‘I was offered a $500,000 deal last week to do a comedy special. However, Amy Schumer was offered $11 million, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle $20 million. [Schumer] said, ‘I shouldn’t get what the men are getting, because they’re legends, but I should get more,’ and Netflix agreed. When we asked Netflix to explain the difference, why the money was so different, they said, ‘Well, we believe that’s what Mo’Nique will bring. We said, ‘What about my resume?’ They said, ‘We don’t go off of resumes,’ Mo’Nique started with.
She added: ‘Then we asked them, ‘What was it about Amy Schumer?’ And they said, ‘Well, she sold out Madison Square Garden twice and she had a big movie over the summer. Is that not Amy Schumer’s resume?’ And then Netflix said, ‘By the way, we believe Mo’Nique is a legend, too.’ Why shouldn’t I get what the legends are getting?’
Do you think Mo’Nique will win this case?
