John Legend Is Named This Year’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ And Chrissy Teigen’s Response Is Fantastic

This week, People Magazine named John Legend as their pick for 2019’s Sexiest Man Alive. And, the reaction from both the singer and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, has been nothing short of fantastic.

Blake Shelton – who claimed the title in 2017 – made the announcement during Tuesday night’s live episode of The Voice. The Ol’ Red singer explained that as a former winner, it was his duty to formally introduce the next sexiest man alive, who just so happened to be in the building. Shelton then revealed Legend, who he called “the man, the myth, the legend,” received this year’s title.

“A bit of a passing of the sexy torch, if you will,” said host Carson Daly.

Shelton also pointed out that Legend joined the show as an EGOT winner – which means he is one of the few people on the planet to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Then, when he won The Voice last season he became a VEGOT winner. And now, he has a “VEGOTSMA,” which stands for The Voice, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony, and Sexiest Man Alive.

Shelton presented Legend with a pair of Daisy Dukes with “VEGOTSMA” bedazzled on the rear.

Legend proceeded to thank Shelton because he was able to sit next to him the past few months on The Voice and that allowed him to learn “his sexy ways.” The All Of Me singer said he observed every move Shelton made and every utterance that came from his mouth, and he thinks some of it rubbed off on him. Of course, Shelton told Legend, “You’re welcome.”

Legend also revealed that his wife Chrissy Teigen is finally proud of him. He admitted that she makes fun of him all the time, but she “hasn’t even been snarky about this.” Legend added that Teigen was “legit proud of me” and he “finally impressed” his wife.

The 40-year-old also talked about his new title in a Twitter post, where he said that “1995 John” would be “very perplexed” to follow 2018 Idris Elba as the Sexiest Man Alive. Legend also posted a nerdy pic of himself from 1995 next to a pic of Elba to prove his point.

But, the best reaction to the news comes from Teigen, who completely changed her Twitter bio. It now reads, “de-motivational speaker currently sleeping with people’s sexiest man alive.”

Chrissy Teigen also tweeted, “My secret is out. I have fulfilled my dream of having boned PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive!! An honor!!!!!”
