Vanna White Credits Wheel Of Fortune Fans For Helping Her After Tragic Death Of Her Fiancé

Vanna White is crediting her gig on Wheel of Fortune for helping her following the tragic death of her fiancé.

The blonde bombshell has been a staple on the syndicated game show for nearly four decades. White began her turning letter duties in 1982 and has become a staple in the game show world.
It was her chemistry with host, Pat Sajak that convinced show creator, Merv Griffin to give her the life-changing job.

“He said it was like brotherly and sisterly chemistry,” the 62-year-old expressed to People magazine.

White explains she and her pal, Sajak have only had one fight in the entire time they have known each other. It was more of a squabble regarding whether or not ketchup belongs on a hot dog. Chicago native Sajak said ketchup is forbidden on a hot dog.

In 1986, tragedy struck White when her fiancé The Young and the Restless actor John Gibson was killed. The plane Gibson was flying crashed outside Van Nuys airport near Los Angeles.

“It was May 17, 1986. The second I heard about it; I fell to my knees. It was just devastating. White now credits the outpouring of love from Wheel of Fortune fans with helping her cope at the time. I heard from so many people who had shared the same experience of losing someone instantly in an accident, and that really helped me. I didn’t feel like I was alone. Because when something like that happens, you immediately think you’re the only one,” White recalls of the challenging time in her life.

It is not the only time Wheel of Fortune fans have helped her when life threw her a curveball. White suffered a miscarriage in 1992.

After announcing her pregnancy via a puzzle on the show, White had to tell viewers a couple of weeks later she lost the baby. Again, the outpour of love and support from the fans has had an extraordinary impact on her recovery.

Vanna White has spent more than half of her life entertaining game show fans on Wheel of Fortune. However, those fans have also helped her in more ways than one.

When she lost her fiancé, as well as had a miscarriage are only two examples of how White has been blessed to have the support of loyal viewers. It is one of the reasons she has no intention of saying good-bye to her turning or rather now touching letter gig any time soon.
