Prince William And Kate Middleton’s Plane Diverted In Pakistan Due To Electrical Storm

Prince William and Kate Middleton had their plane diverted in Pakistan due to an electrical storm.

Even the royals are not exempt from weather wreaking havoc on their travel plans. The couple endured a pretty terrifying moment during their recent trip to Pakistan. After having quite the busy day in Lahore, Middleton and Prince William were headed to Islamabad on a jet when they entered a horrific storm.

People magazine is reporting the royal couple faced a terrifying electrical storm. At one-point lightening could be seen on the right side of the plane, which kept rolling side to side over Islamabad.

The pilot tried a couple of times to land the plane, an RAF Voyager, at different airports. Unfortunately, the attempts failed, and the royal couple was forced to head back to Lahore.

It became too dangerous to continue to fly or try to land at their initial destination. The flight was supposed to be a quick 25-minute jaunt but took over two hours.

“Those big flashes are the RAF Voyager, carrying William, Kate and traveling media, going through lightning two aborted landings at Islamabad due to the storm and we’re back in Lahore,” shared Press Association reporter Emma Louise Bowden via Twitter.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as everyone else on the plane,  were fine. There are even reports Prince William joked he was the one who safety flew the plane out of the storm.

“Phew. Landed! But in Lahore. A terrifying electrical storm hit as we tried to land at Islamabad. Lightning seemed to be crashing around the right-wing. Despite the best efforts of the pilot of William and Kate’s RAF Voyager plane we couldn’t land there,” Tweeted Simon Perry, who is the chief foreign correspondent of People magazine.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are currently on a five-day tour in Pakistan. They started their day in Lahore by visiting SOS Children’s Village, which is a charity organization dedicated to providing homes and family structure to kids who need it. The royal couple was thrilled to participate in a birthday party for three kids in the organization.

After a terrifying electrical storm caused their plane to be diverted in Pakistan, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are safe. Their travel plans will need to be revised but thankfully they are safe despite lightning striking close to their jet.
