Heather Locklear Avoids Jail By Completing 30-Day Rehab Stint
Former Melrose Place and Spin City star Heather Locklear has completed her 30-day rehab stint and successfully avoided jail time, which was part of her plea agreement after police arrested her in the summer of 2018 for assaulting an officer and an emergency medical technician. The troubled 57-year-old actress is still on probation for the next three years, and she will continue to get therapy via an outpatient program.
According to Us Weekly, Locklear’s legal team filed paperwork earlier this week in a Los Angeles court titled “Defendant’s Proof of Completion of Residential Treatment Program,” which the court ordered in lieu of a 120-day jail sentence. The judge in her case allowed Locklear to seek treatment instead of incarceration, with the requirement that she had to successfully complete the program.
“The Defendant has been committed to therapy,” wrote her attorney, William Haney. “She has been compliant and participatory, as well as actively engaged.”
The jail sentence is still a possibility for Locklear if she fails to follow the rules of probation, which prohibit the actress from consuming alcohol and taking non-prescription drugs, and she is also not allowed to possess deadly weapons.
Locklear pleaded no contest back in August to eight misdemeanor counts that included two counts of resisting arrest, one count of battery on emergency personnel, and five counts of battery on a peace officer.
The actress has also settled a lawsuit with the EMT she assaulted, Jennifer Hayn-Hilton, who was suing for medical expenses, lost income, and damages. In her lawsuit, Hayn-Hilton claimed that Locklear “struck, kicked, and battered” her, while wishing that her kids “would all die of AIDS.”
Locklear was reportedly “extremely intoxicated” and “very, very uncooperative” when officers arrested her. And, within hours of posting bail, she was rushed to the hospital because of an overdose.
This Dynasty alum has been battling addiction for years, and in September 2018 she wrote on Instagram that “addiction is ferocious and will try to take you down.” She told her fans that “recovery is the best revenge,” and she advised them to always be kind to everyone that you meet because “your light just might change your path.”
After completing rehab, cameras caught Heather Locklear celebrating her daughter Ava Sambora’s 22nd birthday, and the actress looked like she was happy and doing well.
