Rehtaeh Parsons Case Featured On Investigation Discovery — Glen Canning And Leah Parsons Speak Out
The Rehtaeh Parsons’ case has aired on the Investigation Discovery television program Web of Lies and her parents Glen Canning and Leah Parsons are speaking out about the program and their daughter’s case. Rehtaeh Parsons was a 14-year-old teenager in Nova Scotia who went to a party in November 2011, where she was allegedly gang-raped. Following the attack, that she could only remember bits and pieces of due to alcohol intoxication, she suffered from severe depression and emotional anguish. As her parents desperately tried to help their daughter, a photo from the attack went viral throughout Rehtaeh’s school and then across social media platforms on the Internet. For 17 excruciating months, Rehtaeh’s parents did everything they could think of to help their daughter heal. She changed schools, had counseling, and they tried to move past it but the damage had been done.
On April 4, 2013, Rehtaeh’s mother pushed against a bathroom door with all her might, only to discover her precious daughter, distraught and at the end of all hope, had hung herself. Three days later, after Rehtaeh was hospitalized, the decision was made to turn off life support.
Rehtaeh Parsons died on April 7, 2013.
To this day, none of the four boys who were alleged to have committed rape have been charged.
Rehtaeh’s story has spread across the world and millions have poured out their sympathies to Rehtaeh’s parents and siblings. Both Glen Canning and Leah Parsons are in the Web of Lies episode “The Girl in the Photo” and both are speaking out about Rehtaeh, the show and their efforts to combat cyberbullying on their social media pages.
Glen Canning announced the Web of Lifes episode on his official Twitter account.
