DWTS Host Tom Bergeron Has Choice Words On Decision To Cast Sean Spicer

Dancing With The Stars host, Tom Bergeron has some choice words on the shows decision to cast Sean Spicer.

The controversial casting call is not sitting well with the long-time host of the ABC reality TV show. Bergeron used social media after the DWTS Season 28 casting news was revealed to express his thoughts.

“A few months ago, during a lunch with ‘DWTS’ new Executive Producer Andrew Llinares, I offered suggestions for Season 28. Chief among them was my hope that ‘DWTS,’ in its return following an unprecedented year-long hiatus, would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from ANY party affiliations. I left that lunch convinced we were in agreement. Subsequently and rather obviously, a decision was made to, as we often say in Hollywood, ‘go in a different direction,’ he began in a lengthy statement that was posted on Twitter.

Spicer will no doubt be a lightning rod for criticism and negative attention for the reality TV show. The former White House press secretary is going to bring a significant amount of backlash to the successful ABC show.

“It is the prerogative of the producers, in partnership with the network, to make whatever decisions they feel are the best long-term interests of the franchise. We can agree to disagree, as we do now, but ultimately, it’s their call. I’ll leave it to them to answer any further questions about those decisions,”

Llinares is not concerned about Spicer’s presence on the show. He told USA Today is good for the show to have people that will be talked about on it.

Tom Bergeron is not thrilled DWTS cast Sean Spicer. However, his personal view is not going to keep him from doing the job he has loved for over a decade. The host ended his message expressing that note to fans.

“For me, as host, I always gaze into the camera’s lens and imagine you on the other side, looking for a two-hour escape from whatever life hassles you’ve been wrestling with. That’s a connection, and a responsibility, which I take very seriously, even if I occasionally season it with dad jokes,” Bergeron ended his message.

The host also expressed his hope fans will tune in for the Season 28 premiere on September 16th. Do you agree or disagree with Bergeron’s words regarding Spicer’s casting on DWTS?
