Blink-182 Cancels El Paso Performance After Mass Shooting

According to a report from Rolling Stone, Blink-182 had to cancel their concert on Sunday night in El Paso, Texas, following the news that twenty people were killed at a Walmart on Saturday night. Blink-182 gave a statement on Twitter in which they explained their decision to cancel the show.

“Sending our love to the entire community of El Paso,” the band wrote online. This past Saturday, Mark Hoppus and others stated they were on “lockdown” in their hotel which was just a few miles from the Cielo Vista Mall where the shooting went down.

The singer-songwriter claimed he had plans to go to the Cielo Vista Mall. As a precautionary measure, the police increased their police forces at the Bassett Mall. Hoppus took to his Twitter to announce that there was another shooter across the street at a separate location.

Lil’ Wayne, the tour mate on Blink’s latest concert tour, was at Lollapalooza while the shooting occurred.

Previously, Lil’ Wayne actually voiced his displeasure at the number of people in the audience at a prior concert. According to a report from The Fader, while in Bristow, VA, Lil’ Wayne got off the stage after saying the audience was not “his swag.”

Consequently, fans became concerned he was going to leave the tour altogether. The star said that the fact there wasn’t a lot of people in the audience wasn’t his “swag.” The rapper said to the audience before getting off the stage that he doubted he would continue on the tour but thanked the band anyway for including him.

“This might be my last night though, let’s go.” The collaborative tour between Blink-182 and Lil’ Wayne was slated to run through September. Reportedly, Lil’ Wayne is good friends with the drummer or Blink-182, Travis Barker, who has also worked with other big names in the hip-hop community including Gucci Mane and the Suicide Boyz.

It isn’t clear when Blink-182 will go back on the road, but authorities are still investigating the incident which led to over twenty deaths in an El Paso, Texas, Walmart.
