Awkwafina Teases She Might Be Part Of The Little Mermaid Live-Action Remake’s Cast!

Will Awkwafina be in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid or not? Rumors have been going around that she is part of the cast which is why she was asked to confirm while at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Here’s what she had to say!

The actress was there to promote her latest project, an animated movie titled Raya and the Last Dragon.

But is she also part of an even bigger production?

Rumor has it that she is set to play the role of Scuttle in the highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of the animated classic.

For now, the only cast member that has actually been confirmed is Halle Bailey, who will be portraying the main character, Ariel.

When asked about the rumor that she’s also in the movie, Awkwafina seemingly implied that there may be some truth to it but not clearly confirming it.

‘Aww man, that all isn’t confirmed yet, but obviously if it happens, I would be more than honored. It’s a classic, yeah. I’m very, very happy. That’s my princess right there, so I’m very happy with what they have [announced] so far.’

The rumors started back in July when some reports claimed the Crazy Rich Asians actress was chosen to portray the character of Scuttle, the seagull in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

In the original, the talking bird was voiced by Buddy Hackett.

But aside from Bailey, no cast members have been confirmed since then.

Other rumors related to the remake’s cast said that Harry Styles would be playing Prince Eric but some reports later claimed he turned the part down.

In addition, Melissa McCarthy is supposedly in talks to play Ursula while Javier Bardem is in talks to play King Triton.

Finally, another speculation is that Jacob Tremblay will be portraying Flounder.
