Venus Williams Addresses Her Shocking Wimbledon Loss Against 15-Year-Old Coco Gauff

The tennis champion opened up to the press about her shocking loss against Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff. Here’s what she had to say!

One journalist wondered if she was at least consoled by the fact that the player who beat her is 15 and has a huge potential to follow into her footsteps.

Venus however, admitted that she’d never really thought about it like that.

Her answers were generally short and to the point, but, when it comes to how she felt about her performance, Venus went into a bit more detail to explain that ‘Yeah she played so well… I actually did not play well, so it was a contrast of both sides.’

The 15 year old that beat Venus had only positive things to say about the 39 year old, saying that Venus has been her inspiration to reach new highs in her career for a long time.

‘I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her. And I was just telling her that she is so inspiring. I always wanted to tell her that. And even if I met her before, I guess now I have the guts to,’ Gauff said in an interview she gave after the game.

Sure enough, she’s made history through her victory since now she is the youngest female player to qualify for the Wimbledon main draw in the Open era!

Naturally, it is her life’s biggest achievement but she has so many other opportunities to prove herself in the future as well since she is so young.

It feels like this is just the beginning for Coco, whose story of success might end up mirroring the Williams sisters’ one.
