Exclusive Updates: Man United names Solskjaer as new caretaker manager

Manchester United have named Ole Gunnar Solskjær as new caretaker manager until the end of the 2018-19 season.

Red Devils dismissed Jose Mourinho on Tuesday after Liverpool whipped 20-times champions  3-1 by their fiercest rivals at Anfield on Sunday which leaves the club19 points behind Jurgen Klopp men in the Premier League and 11 points off the top four and closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table.

Solskjaer returns to Manchester United for the second time after the 45-year-old Norwegian coach, who played at Old Trafford for over a decade between and made 366 appearances scoring 126 goals in all competition.

A statement read via the club website: "Manchester United announced today that former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the 2018-19 season.

"Solskjaer will take charge of the first team with immediate effect and will remain in place while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager.”

Solskjaer left to join Molde and, after an ill-fated spell at the helm of Saturday’s opponents Cardiff during which the side won nine of 30 games, returned to the Norwegian club and finished second, qualifying for the second qualifying round of the Europa League.
