Canadian Rapper, Drake Scorpion Spotify Promotion Sparks Refund Requests from Angry Users
Drake’s sixth album, Scorpion , broke one-day streaming records in the U.S. — with its 25 tracks played more than 132 million times on its day of release. But not everyone is a Drake fan on streaming service Spotify.
The heavy promotion of Drake’s album on the streaming service has resulted in demands for refunds from paying customers, WENN.com reports.
Drake was honored with the first-ever “artist takeover” on Spotify, which means his picture is featured on the cover of virtually every song in certain playlists — whether the music is by Drake or not.
Musician Matt Gerrard messaged Spotify’s Twitter account, writing: “Wondering when i get my refund for my AD-FREE premium subscription since you’ve flooded my account with ads this month for this crappy Drake album.”
Another user, Kieran Hemming complained: “when you pay for premium membership you pay for no advertising. This ‘drake spam’ is advertising. Can us paid users expect any kind of refund?”
A Reddit user claimed he received a month’s refund after he contacted a customer care worker with a complaint.
He posted screenshots of the refund on Reddit.com .
However, WENN reports that Spotify has not adopted a refund policy due to the complaints.
